Physical Fitness and Sports
Everyone can benefit from regular physical activity, and you don’t need to be a professional athlete to do it. Check Your Health encourages everyone to be more active by finding an activity that you can do throughout the lifespan, such as swimming, tennis, or just going for a walk. Not only will you have a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer, but you will feel more energized, happier, and productive.
Children learn their activity habits from their parents. Help give your children the start they need in life by being active as a family. Current recommendations are that adults should accumulate 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity physical activity (walking, light swimming, etc.) or 75 minutes of vigorous activity (such as running, step aerobics, etc.).
Children should get at least an hour of physical activity a day.
